Key Highways Served
Washington State operates one of the most extensive high-tension cable median barrier systems in the United States, and IFC installs cable barrier on WSDOT projects across the I-5, I-90, I-82, and SR-18 corridors. Beyond cable barrier, our Washington crews install concrete median barrier, impact attenuator systems, and temporary construction zone barrier throughout all six WSDOT regions.
WSDOT Cable Median Barrier Program
WSDOT was among the first state DOTs to deploy high-tension cable median barrier at scale, and the program has dramatically reduced cross-median fatalities on divided highways statewide. WSDOT specifies cable barrier to unique Washington standard plans that include end anchor designs and post spacing requirements not identical to any other state's program. Our crews are trained on WSDOT-specific cable tensioning procedures, post-reset protocols after vehicle impacts, and the agency's emergency repair response requirements that require damaged cable barrier sections to be restored within specified timeframes.
Concrete Median Barrier
Where median widths are insufficient for cable barrier deflection or where WSDOT determines concrete median barrier is appropriate — including bridge approaches, high-retaining-wall sections, and specific interchange areas — IFC installs precast concrete barrier and cast-in-place median barrier per WSDOT Standard Specifications. We work with WSDOT-approved precast suppliers in the Puget Sound region and can arrange precast delivery from multiple sources to accommodate project locations across the state.
Impact Attenuator Systems
Impact attenuators protect workers and motorists at gore points, construction zone taper ends, and fixed roadside obstacles. WSDOT's approved attenuator list includes MASH TL-3 systems such as the REACT 350, QuadGuard, and SCI Smart Cushion. Our crews install and maintain these systems on WSDOT maintenance contracts and construction projects, and we keep select attenuator models in inventory for rapid deployment on emergency and short-duration projects.
