Ideal Fencing Corp installs guardrail on CDOT projects across all six engineering regions, from the mountain curves of I-70 at Vail Pass to the exposed median runs of I-25 through Pueblo. Our Adarand Constructors division in Colorado Springs has held continuous CDOT contractor prequalification for over 40 years, making us one of the most experienced guardrail contractors operating in Colorado today.

CDOT Prequalification and Project History

Both Ideal Fencing Corp and our Adarand Constructors division hold active CDOT prequalification for guardrail, fencing, signing, and barrier work. Adarand has maintained approved CDOT contractor status since the early 1980s and performs guardrail installation on I-25 between Castle Rock and Monument, along US-50 through the Royal Gorge corridor, and on numerous CDOT maintenance contracts across Region 2. Ideal Fencing Corp's Erie headquarters adds Front Range and I-70 mountain corridor capacity.

W-Beam, Box Beam, and Thrie Beam Systems

We install the full range of CDOT-approved guardrail systems: W-beam (strong post and weak post), box beam for bridge ends and low-clearance areas, thrie beam for high-energy impact zones, and cable barrier for median applications. All materials are sourced from CDOT-approved suppliers and fabricated to AASHTO M-180 specifications. Our project managers review CDOT Standard Plans M-609-1 through M-614-1 on every project to confirm hardware compatibility with current specifications.

Mountain Corridor Installation

Mountain highway guardrail on I-70, US-550, SH-82, and US-40 demands techniques not required on flat terrain. Rocky cut slopes require drilling for post installation rather than driven posts. Curved rail sections on switchback curves must be fabricated to custom radii. Work zone setups on two-lane mountain highways often operate under flagger control with pilot cars, requiring CDOT-certified traffic control supervisors on every shift. Our crews hold current CDOT flagger certifications and ATSSA Traffic Control Technician credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Adarand Constructors division in Colorado Springs has held CDOT contractor prequalification for over 40 years, performing guardrail installation on I-25, US-50, US-24, and numerous state highway corridors across CDOT Regions 1, 2, and 4. Ideal Fencing Corp's Erie operation extends that coverage statewide.

Yes. We self-perform traffic control setup under approved CDOT traffic control plans. Our supervisors hold CDOT flagger certification and ATSSA TCS credentials. We coordinate directly with CDOT resident engineers and maintenance superintendents on lane closure windows, especially on high-volume corridors like I-25 and I-70.

We are prequalified for W-beam guardrail (strong post and weak post), box beam, thrie beam, cable median barrier, bridge rail transitions, and terminal end treatments. All installations conform to CDOT Standard Plans and AASHTO Roadside Design Guide criteria applicable to each project site.

Where bedrock is within 24 inches of the surface, we use pneumatic rock drills or hydraulic rotary augers to pre-drill post holes before driving. Post embedment depths are confirmed with CDOT resident engineers, and backfill uses non-shrink grout or compacted crushed rock depending on specification. We carry the equipment necessary for rock-drilling on every mountain corridor project.

Yes. Both our Erie and Colorado Springs locations carry guardrail hardware inventory for emergency repairs. We respond to damage calls from CDOT maintenance contractors, county road departments, and private project owners.
